I do like how the book has different styles of playing as well. The cd was very useful and really made a difference as I could hear how it should be played. I also like how it is played at a slower pace and then a faster pace. I only wish that there were many more riffs and other books like this one. Love it - can practice one riff per day and be a star! Instrumental cd plays it once and then you can try.

He is imitating until he gets better. My teacher bought this book for himself. I thought it was so good I also bought a copy. Gives 100 sample Jazz riffs in Swing, Funk, Latin, Ballad, Waltz. Plays the riff once with sax then repeats with just the backing so you can play. Makes you use unfamiliar phrases rather than rely on your favourite runs.

Like the author, I found blues solos (relatively) easy but was totally lost when it came to soloing on even the simplest 'standards'. Found the riffs quite interesting, technically a challenge and the chord progression information useful. Some books can be cheesy and boring - not this one. And of course it will improve your sight reading.
