I have only been back in work for a week and a bit and I am worried to ask for the day off despite it being a blood relative. Would they consider letting me have the day off without sacking me altogether?

Best Answer: Normally, during any time off over a week, you're required to keep in contact with your line manager - so it was probably good to take them in rather than post. You don't mention what the result of the disciplinary?

You would get a verbal, written or final written warning. If you don't know, it's more likely you had an 'investigation' or 'health review'. I would be dubious about asking for more time off, but you will probably get away with it. One more thing - if you had sick notes, you weren't AWOL so there is also some confusion there. Tell us some more.
